OAK WOODLAND ACREAGE ANALYSIS FOR THE CROSSINGS PROJECT

The El Dorado Crossing Shopping Center is a proposed commercial development just west of the City of Placerville, in El Dorado County (County). During the permitting process, the project was required to comply with the County Oak Woodland Management Plan (OWMP), which established the conservation methodology and priorities for oak woodlands as the 2004 General Plan was implemented. EN2/SEA’s analysis included the use of temporal infrared imagery to calculate oak woodland acreage within the project development regions to determine the approximate oak woodland mitigation requirements and also included the analysis of a mitigation parcel. EN2/SEA used GIS software to analyze an orthorectified digital aerial photograph of the study area to determine canopy acreage within oak woodlands as defined by the County. The mapping analysis was followed with field verification by a qualified biologist.
